Horse Riding

We are horse enthusiasts at Llancayo House; we own two thoroughbred horses (one an ex-racehorse) who live in our stables and paddock. We would be very happy to accommodate you and your horse, by prior arrangement. We would however ask that your horse's vaccination and worming courses and records are fully up to date, and that your horses are insured.

In the Llancayo area there are a number of bridal paths and riding routes, including a route along the River Usk. It is also possible to ride in the local woods, such as Wentwood which is only a few miles away. The Sugar Loaf mountain, 9 miles away, also has excellent hacking routes with amazing views. There are cross-country courses nearby that can be hired.

Particularly in the summer months, the South Wales area holds many country shows where you can enter your horse in competition, both in jumping and showing classes. Hunter trials and eventing competitions also take place locally (both affiliated and unaffiliated). One of our favourite venues for such competitions is the David Broome Event Centre in Crick, near Chepstow (about 13 miles away). Lessons are also available for riders at all levels. See their website for more information: http://www.cricklands.com.

Riding and Trekking Centres include the Riverside Riding Centre at Crickhowell (12.2 miles away), see: http://www.worldofhorses.co.uk/Riding_School_Directory/riding_school_Powys_196.asp

Also, the Llanthony Riding and Trekking Centre near Abergavenny (16.2 miles away), see: http://www.llanthony.co.uk/riding.html.
